On The Shelf: Behold

Happy June ☺️

One of my biggest struggles has always been the media I consume.

Not just the amount of time I spend consuming it, but the content itself. Scripture is clear that what we set our minds on matters. And if I’m being honest, there have been plenty of times when my feed reflected more of the world than it did Christ.

So this month, I’m making a more intentional effort to pay attention to what I’m consuming and to choose things that help me grow in my faith and affection for the Lord.

The syllabi I share each month go hand in hand with my monthly snail mail club, The Fold Post. If you’d like handcrafted Christian mail delivered to your mailbox each month, I’d love to have you join us.

Now, onto this month’s shelf.

The theme: BEHOLD

Isaiah 43:19 ESV

Behold, I am doing a new thing;

now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?

I will make a way in the wilderness

and rivers in the desert.

When I think of the word behold, I tend to think of the big moments. The moments that leave you in awe of God’s power and goodness. The answered prayers, the breakthroughs, the moments where His hand is impossible to miss.

But as I’ve been thinking about this month’s theme, I’ve realized that God is not only found in the grand moments. He is found in the quiet ones, too...

In 1 Kings 19, Elijah expects God to be in the wind, the earthquake, and the fire. Instead, God speaks through a still small voice.

I wonder how often I miss what God is doing because I’m only looking for the big things. I keep asking God to answer me without giving Him time to answer.

This month is an invitation to pay attention and slow down. To tune our ears to the Lord and acknowledge His nearness.

Not just in the extraordinary, but in the ordinary too.

1 Kings 19:12 NKJV

and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [a]a still small voice.
